University project to design a primary school. I started off by trying to decide on a massing for the building, as I believe that the relationship between building and playground is very important. The building should protect the open spaces while providing light and a variety of spaces.
I wanted each classroom to feel like a home so that the children felt comfortable while at school. This led to the idea of using a pitched roof above each classroom, but to create inspiring spaces, I started to play about with the shape.
Each classroom has a small balcony within the roof space for the children to have quiet play time.
I made a model by hand using balsa wood and card to show how the relationships between the spaces and the landscape.
