VISITORS CENTER

VISITORS CENTER

La Palma is a volcanic island that reaches the 2400m on its top, where one of the three largest astronomical observatories in the world is located. I opted for a tourism based on Astrophysics by designing a visitor’s center that configures an opportunity for the development of the island. In addition, I consider crucial to rethink the overall mobility and public spaces of the observatory.

The proposal takes into account the exceptional nature of the site that claims a subtle intervention. The project recognizes the attributes of the place and adds a unique value to it. The architecture is facing a natural concavity creating a space in between where visitors, locals and researchers gather in harmony. The building is a rough concrete volume that seems to emerge from the ground as if it was a rock. At the end of the building, an outdoor room is set to see the stars.
