ARC5001 [04] BELVEDERE

We were to design a shelter for walkers which is also is a vantage point or observatory, framing a spectacular view.

This was a one week project undertaken in the Autumn semester

A belvedere is structure which commands a fine view and is usually found in a isolated environment.

This belvedere not only frames a view but also plays on peoples perceptions conceptually.

This idea has been based on the book “The ways of seeing” by John Berger. This talks about the idea of what we think we see and what we know “The relation between what we see and what we know is never settled. Each evening we see the sun set. We know that the earth is turning away from it. Yet the knowledge, the explanation, never quite fits the sight.”
